The 12 Apostles Visitor Inspiration Project #12AVIP aims to improve visitor experience and understanding of the unique ecology, geology and weather that has shaped one of the most iconic stretches of coastline on the planet.
Thar she blows! Borrow binoculars for wildlife viewing, a close-up perspective of our unique coastal formations or even exploring the detail of our dark southern skies. Want to go one better. Talk to our staff about borrowing one of our telescopes to view the heavens from the comfort of your own accommodation.
Windy day? Bring it on, are you bold enough to chase, fast enough to race and clever enough to outwit the southern wind?
Wind Hunters get to use a special piece of equipment (anemometer) to measure and explore the secrets of wind and weather on the mighty Shipwreck Coast. Look for clues to discover where the highest wind speed and coolest temperatures will be found.
Participants will learn to use an anemometer and examine the relationship of wind in plant selection and shaping of our unique coastal landscape.
Digital Detectives Learn to track our sneaky wildlife, investigate the special features of our local plants and solve the puzzles left by our amazing seascapes. Digital detectives will get you on your hands and knees taking photos and looking for evidence or investigating the extreme plants of the Port Campbell National Park. Pick up an activity sheet Solve the mysteries, reveal the southern secrets and return to base!
Take a close up look with an illuminated stereo microscope and discover the tiny field of jewels that make up the unique sand footprint of Port Campbell National Park.
Deep dive beneath the waves of our southern Marine National Parks with a Virtual Reality experience right in the Visitor Information Centre. The team from Deakin University have produced a unique experience to give visitors to the coast an exciting look below and in depth of the underwater ecology that supports many unique species including the giant leatherback turtle and Weedy Sea Dragon. Strap on a headset and prepare for an educational adventure (arrives June 2022)
Borrow a GPS unit and get ready to head north and go on your very own Crater Quest. discover hidden signs you can only find with a GPS and learn more about the volcanic secrets of the lakes, craters and peaks that lie just north of the coast.
All equipment and self guided activities are free of charge. We do require a credit card to secure equipment. Loan is available overnight and can be picked up and dropped off at Port Campbell Visitor Information Centre which is open from 9 — 5 pm 7 days per week.
